Chasing Sunsets
Today
I came back
To where it all started
For you and me
Where I saw your sunshine
Where I first saw your light
I vividly remember
Everything was nearly the same
Only difference was your absence
You were somewhere else
With someone else
And you have his name
There I stared
Blankly yet fondly
At the sun setting.
Baffled at how
Even at this stage
Of our separate lives
Thoughts of you
Cross my mind
Always…
And how
Loves in lives
That manifest
Yet never seemed
To have started
Still need culminations
I could never tell you this
And so I write
Somewhere
You could not see
Or somewhere
You can easily ignore
In the shadows
In the skies at dusk
Or am I just
Fooling myself to think
That my words would ever
Reach you
If only we could
Chase the sunset
One last time
And be certain
Of who you are to me
And who I am to you
Then I can let go
As I know you have
And we can carry on
With the night
Apart, as it had been
Cruelly written
Our time is bittersweet
Eternal existence
In perishable form is.
Someday soon
Change
Will take its course
All I will ever have of you
Are not even memories.
Forgive me
I just had to take
One last look
